Kansas State University Linings Comfort Study

In 1999, the Institute of Environment Research at Kansas State University conducted a study to determine the perceived difference in the comfort between acetate and polyester linings.

Findings

Results from the Comfort Study indicate that acetate linings were perceived as more comfortable - less sticky, non-absorbent, less clammy, and less damp - than polyester linings. (See Confort Ratings Chart below).

Methodology:

  • 3 acetate lining fabrics and 2 polyester lining fabrics in five identical wool jackets
  • 120 sets of observations (24 female subjects each wearing 5 identical women's jackets)
  • Participants were monitored for one hour in a temperature controlled chamber to 87° F, 50% relative humidity.
